E m p o w e r i n g   t h e   R a i n f o r e s t s   o f   W a l e s

We need 7 trees to breathe for a year - That's more than 500 trees each, to breathe for a lifetime. Imagine then, how deep is the forest needed for your entire family to breathe, or furthermore, how vast are the forests that have served the ancestors of your bloodlines? It has taken millions of trees over thousands of centuries to bring you to this Now.

Everyday, inside these trees, an ancient love song is whispered for you & for your future generations, yet it is never heard by the human ear.

Environmental Sound Artist, Cheryl Beer, is repurposing hearing aid technology at Wales' remaining pockets of declining, temperate rainforest, where she is collating the inner biorhythms of the forest floor & transposing these natural heartbeats into digital sound sculptures. By notating the internal sonic landscape of the soil, Cheryl will become a Conduit Composer, capturing music that enables us, for the first time, to hear deeply the inner song of our most ancient rainforests.

Notating the Biorhythms of our most sacred Rainforests, right here, in Wales

Main Commission Schedule

During the next 12 months, Cheryl will be touring the Rainforests of Wales, collating ambient & internal soundscapes by capturing audio, as well as visual sound. She will be applying bio-technical, digital & hearing aid technology, to transpose the inner voice & vibrations of trees, plants & flowers, whilst applying techniques in chlorophyl photography, widening visual access to the sonic world,
Gretha: The Song of the Sapling

A Symphony of Seven Trees

The 6 soundscapes listed above, are a journey to this end: A Symphony of Seven Trees, where the biorhythms are notated to compose music that brings togehter all 4 pockets of rainforest for the first time in 10,000 years. Where once the trees were joined underground by mycelium, now they are entwined by digital & musical performance, recorded & streamed from the depths of the rainforests.
