A NOD TO THE PAST
Cheryl joined her first band at Age 13, penning her own songs and putting her poetry to music. She was first published at just 17 years of age. Following her heart, she has spent a lifetime in the music industry, opening shows for the likes of Sir Bob Geldof, touring with Lonnie Donegan, Van Morrison and many others, performing at some of our most prestigious theatres and festivals. Over the years, she was at the forefront of Women's Music Events. Indeed, Amy Wadge had her first solo gig performing her own songs at Cheryl's Women's Voices Evening at Clwb Ifor Bach, Cardiff, & some 15 years later, when Cheryl was the Director of the largest Women's Music Festival in Europe at the National Botanic Garden of Wales, Globally Award Winning, Amy came back as the Headline for Cheryl ...
Cheryl says - 'It has always been important to me that I clear a pathway for those who are coming with and after me - if an opportunity arose, I would think, 'how can I widen this to include others.' When I started out, I was told in no uncertain terms, that it would be impossible for a woman to make a living from performing her own songs and I decided to challenge that, not just for myself, but for others, too. I'd like to think, in some small way, I have contributed to the greater access experienced by women in the music today. ''
